A Passion for Bonefish by Ian Davis completes the trilogy of the big three saltwater fly-fishing modern classics, joining A Passion for Tarpon by Andy Mill and A Passion for Permit by Jonathan Olch. This gorgeous new book covers it all: where bonefish live, what they eat, selecting the best tackle and flies to catch them, how to read a bonefish flat, casting and presenting the fly, secrets of the tides and moon, wading versus casting from a flat skiff, how to work as an effective team with your guide, keys to successfully hooking and fighting bonefish, planning your next trip to the flatsand more.
The unique format gathers dozens of the top saltwater fly fishers, who collectively offer 1,000-plus years of wisdom on the water on these various subjects. Experienced guides add their practical perspectives.
Stunning photography presents the colorful world of angling for bonefish in a sweeping visual narrative. Drone shots of the flats focus an ospreys view of the flats as never before seen in print.
Bonefish live in paradise: warm, shallow, crystalline, turquoise waters edged by white sandy beaches and rainbow-colored coral reefs circling the equatorial world. These beautiful silvery fish reflect their surroundings. They are speedsters. Streaking across a flat, bonefish have been clocked at a blistering 22 miles an hourfive times that of rainbow trout. Bones are a perfect match for todays light fly rods and reels and specialized lines.
As freshwater fisheries around the world have become more and more crowded and less appealing, adventurous anglers turn to the tropical flats for renewed excitement. This is the sports new bonefishing bible.

The Author
Ian Davis spent his childhood chasing game fish on Long Island, Cape Cod, and in the Catskill Mountains. His dad was a saltwater fisherman, and his mother and step-father were fly anglers. In the early 1990s, Ian moved to Colorado. At Breckenridge Outfitters, Davis and his partners offered his guests friendly, educationally focused guiding and retail fly-fishing experiences. Ultimately, this led to hosting group trips to saltwater angling destinations such as Andros Island in the Bahamas and Ascension Bay in Mexico.
Ian immediately become captivated with tropical flats fishing. In 2006 he moved to Montana to join Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures as co-owner and Saltwater Program Director.
Davis strives to improve both domestic and international angling communities through the Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation (www.ydccf.org). From renovating schools and building teacher housing in Mexicos Yucatn Peninsula, to creating a community sports park on Andros Island in the Bahamas, to leading recovery efforts on Grand Bahama after hurricane Dorian, his passion to strengthen the communities where we love to fish occupies much of his time. For over a decade Ian has hosted and managed a Redbone To Catch The Cure Foundation International Fly-fishing Tournament, which has raised more than a quarter million dollars in the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Ian Davis lives in Bozeman, Montana, where he is a landscape artist, and shares his love for the outdoors with his wife, Karen, and their three daughters: Hillary, Maggie and Sophie.
