“The Massacre Midge was a fly that I had been working on for years. Iwas trying to create afly that would work as a midge emerger as wellas a baetis emerger. Most of the time duringthe winter, fall and springwe will see hatches of midges and baetis coming off on the sameday.

Having a fly that works equally well for both hatches afforded me andmy clients more timefishing and not changing flies. I also needed a flythat had a little more detail than the flies thatI was fishing, thesegmentation in the Massacre Midge adds a hint of realism which hasproven to be deadly for fooling double digit tailwater fish.

The small vail of dubbing adds movement to the bug and the foam onthe head makes the flyride upright just like the naturals do. I will fishthe Massacre Midge when I am nymphing in themiddle of the watercolumn and near the surface. As the hatch progresses, I will add theMassacre Midge as a dropper off of a midge or BWO dry fly. In thesize 18 the MassacreMidge also works great as a caddis emerger.
